Process Design

Effective decision-making does not happen by accident; it is the result of careful consideration, lateral thinking, inclusive dialogue and collaboration between necessary stakeholders. In order to navigate the complexity of large group collaboration and problem solving, we employ process design to reverse engineer a best-case decision.

By starting from objectives, we apply models of creativity, organization and group learning to divide a complex problem into a series of interconnected activities and dialogues which circle broadly at first – to consider the whole system and imagine possible futures – before tightening on an emergent solution.

This is a process of co-design which precedes any event, pairing our process experts with key stakeholders to mesh our design with your insights into your own organization.

Process Facilitation

When the design is laid and the group is brought together, we guide participants through the process, prodding where needed, and getting out of the way when the group begins to form its own solutions. Process facilitation is about shepherding groups through the comprehensive designs we have co-designed leading up to the session, as well as adjusting it on the fly as new avenues emerge, removing all barriers to collaboration to allow collective intelligence to manifest.

Graphic Facilitation

The Value Web is proud to have a strong team of graphic facilitators (also called scribes) within our network. As an element of a two-hour workshop, a three day DesignShop Event or other designed, collaborative engagement, graphic facilitation (also called graphic recording or scribing) plays a interesting and important role in capturing and synthesizing the collective ideas and outputs of the participants.

During the event the use of graphic facilitation engages all participants but particularly those who are visual learners and listeners in the conversation. Scribes capture the ebb and flow of a conversation in words and pictures producing a robust, relevant and colorful illustration in real time. For a diverse community of people or organization a scribe can facilitate the creation of a common language and shared understanding of words, ideas and intent.

After the event the graphics act as a comprehensive memory of the experience and as a communication tool for participants to share the outcomes with people who weren’t present during the session.

Each illustration is photographed and available to participants in a variety of forms such as a PDF file, a PowerPoint document or on a website. For more examples visit our collection on Flickr.
